How to Compare Medical Scrub Fabrics
Scrub fabrics may include cotton, polyester, spandex and stretch blends. No single composition is best for every use; consider how the fabric supports your clinical shift.
What to look for
- Comfort during long shifts
- Stretch suited to your movement
- Durability with repeated use and washing
- Ease of care and drying
- Shape retention and fit
- Moisture-management properties when specified by the product
Polyester
Polyester is common in professional clothing because of its durability and relative ease of care. Fabric quality also depends on weight, weave, finish and blend.
Rayon
Rayon can add a softer hand feel and different drape, which is why it appears in some modern scrub blends.
Spandex
Spandex provides stretch in many scrub blends. The percentage alone does not determine comfort.
4-way stretch
4-way stretch means the fabric is designed to stretch lengthwise and crosswise, which can help healthcare professionals who bend, reach and move throughout a shift.
THRADS Aero and Aeris fabric
Current THRADS Aero and Aeris scrub sets use 73% Polyester / 21% Rayon / 6% Spandex, with 4-way stretch and the performance properties stated on their product pages.
